A deliberately broad senior role: you work at client sites across the full infrastructure lifecycle (audit, architecture, deployment, operations)in environments where downtime is not an option.
Our consultants spend their time on real architectures, at the client site, under hard operational constraints. This is neither level-1 support nor theoretical documentation: you scope it, you design it, you deploy it, and you remain accountable for what you put into production.
The role is intentionally wide. Depending on the engagement you may work on segmenting a banking network, a multi-site migration for a public body, OT/IT convergence on an industrial site, or a full upgrade for a growing business. That variety is the heart of the job here, not a scheduling accident.
What you will do
Audit what exists and map real traffic, not the official diagram.
Run migrations in reversible waves, with cutover windows and tested rollback plans.
Secure cloud and hybrid environments (Azure, AWS) and their access governance.
Document every architecture decision so it stands up to audit, and transfer knowledge to the client's teams.
Support pre-sales on engagements where your expertise is decisive.
What we are looking for
Substantial experience in network infrastructure and security, earned in production environments.
The ability to explain an architecture as well as build one: our consultants deal directly with decision-makers.
Real fluency with at least one major ecosystem (Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Azure or AWS), and curiosity about the others.
The instinct to document and test rather than rely on memory.
Fluent French; professional English for engagements and technical research.

What does a consultant at RISS actually do?
They work on client sites across the full life cycle of an infrastructure: audit the existing environment, design the target architecture, run the migration, then operate or hand over. They stay accountable for what they put into production, which changes the relationship to the work entirely.
The variety of engagements is the core of the job here, not a scheduling accident. Depending on the period, you will work on the segmentation of a banking network core, the multi-site migration of a public agency, the OT and IT convergence of an industrial site, or the full upgrade of an eighty-person business.
Audit before proposing. Map the real flows, not the official diagram. This stage produces the most surprises and determines the quality of everything after it.
Design while owning the trade-offs. LAN, WAN, SD-Access, Wi-Fi, segmentation, access control, SASE. Document what was ruled out and why.
Cut over without breaking. Migrations in reversible waves, negotiated cutover windows, rollback plans tested before they are needed.
Pass it on. Operational documentation and training of the client's teams are deliverables, assessed as such.

The role is deliberately generalist and senior. We are looking for someone able to carry an engagement end to end, from audit to production, across varied environments. This is not a product-specialist role: it is a practising architect's role, designing and deploying.

What profile are we looking for?
People who can explain an architecture as well as they can build one. Our consultants deal directly with decision-makers, so client presence counts as much as technical depth.
This is the criterion that rules out the most applications, and it deserves to be explicit. An excellent technician unable to justify a trade-off to a management team will not be able to carry our engagements, because half the work consists of making a compromise understandable to someone without the technical vocabulary.
Production experience. On real environments, with their constraints and their history, not only in a lab or in certification exercises.
The ability to document. Writing for the person who will hold the role in two years, not for the person who lived the project.
Technical honesty. Being able to say you do not know, and being able to tell a client that what they are asking for is not what they need.
Working bilingualism. French day to day, English for technical documentation and certain engagements.
Yes, in a hybrid arrangement. Travel is occasional and tied to engagements: on-site surveys, cutover windows, workshops with client teams, mainly in Greater Montreal and sometimes in the regions. The rest of the work, which is the majority, happens remotely or at the office depending on what serves the engagement. We do not set a quota of days in the office: the rule is that work happens where it is most effective, and some stages genuinely require being on site.
Yes: exams, preparation materials and study time counted inside your workload. We treat certification as a company investment rather than personal effort to be supplied in the evening. The counterpart is that target certifications are discussed with you based on upcoming engagements and your own path, rather than collected to decorate a brochure.
Our model rests on a core of experienced consultants who work alone at client sites, which makes hosting a junior profile demanding: it requires real mentoring, on selected engagements. We do it, but not continuously. If you are starting out, a speculative application remains useful: it lets us contact you when an engagement offers the conditions for serious mentoring, which is better than a hire without support.
Rarely. Our Canadian engagements take place in Quebec in person, and remotely elsewhere in Canada. For Europe, engagements are run with our partner RISS Consulting in France, which occasionally opens transatlantic collaboration, generally remote. This is not a travelling role.
A first conversation with a consultant, not a recruitment desk, to understand your background and answer your questions about the real engagements. Then a technical discussion, built around concrete architecture cases rather than recall questions. Finally a conversation with management. We give a reasoned answer in every case, including a negative one, because receiving silence after a technical interview is a practice we consider unacceptable.
